September Theme:The Theme: Growing up on Grandma Rose’s Farm
Here is what Chef Kathy Watson had to say about this unique Supper Club theme.
“I grew up rich, high above the Monterey Bay in California. Not rich in wealth, but rich in the joyful, harmonious life my grandparents created on their small farm. While my grandfather Max spent most of his time in his wood shop or with his bee hives (or making his famous honey cracker jacks or tamales), Grandma Rose tended a half-acre garden, and marshaled a big family who were at her beck and call for harvesting the garden and the acres of gravenstein apples, loganberries, apricots and peaches. There were eggs to gather and chickens to butcher. And the woods to wander.
Of course, there was the kitchen. Max and Rose thought nothing of grinding their own grains for flour, or juicing our fruit, saving, and savoring, every edible bite. Everything was from scratch, a way of life that seeped deep into my consciousness, and shapes how I cook today. Our dinners on Sept. 8 and 9 will reflect back on those happy, productive years, and honor both of my grandparents’ creative genius.” Chef Kathy Watson
